South Africa lags far behind many developing countries in levels of entrepreneurship, which is seen globally as a driver of economic growth and job creation through small businesses.
In fact the trend of low levels of entrepreneurship in the country in the past decade has seen an increase of foreign nationals playing very strongly and competitively in the small business environment compared to the locals, particularly in the small business arena.
