The migration to the metaverse, or the Great ‘Metagration’ as we call it, means that businesses must upskill their teams and learn from the youth to close the knowledge gap.
Ornico and World Wide Worx recently issued the 2022 SA Social Media Landscape report. Besides the expected data regarding usage of platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and TikTok, the report revealed that while 22 million local users are weekly active on social media, more than 16% of our adult population have participated in the metaverse or virtual worlds. That is the same proportion of South Africans active on online dating sites.
Metaverse migration
The report confirmed that more South Africans are exploring virtual worlds as part of the broader metaverse than many in the business community believed, with many showing a stubborn naivety towards the space. The migration towards the metaverse indicates that opportunities for monetisation and enhanced business engagement are far greater than anticipated.
The scramble to secure virtual land has been described as the new gold rush as forward-thinking brands pen their strategic approaches in this new frontier, knowing that time is nobody’s ally in this race. Yet, while many are holding back, a lot is happening in banking, education and governance, which should be their calling cards for haste.
