The chaos and clarity of a late ADHD diagnosis

By Kalene Oliver

The book marks a deeply personal turning point in Kalene Oliver’s journey. In the book, she opens up about living with undiagnosed Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), mental health challenges, emotional overwhelm and rebuilding her identity after years of misunderstanding herself.

Known as the founder of The Limitless Women Hub, Kalene has built a platform dedicated to empowering female entrepreneurs. However, with She’s a Hot Mess, she shifts the conversation towards mental health, self-awareness and the hidden emotional struggles many women face silently. In doing so, She’s a Hot Mess creates space for more open conversations around neurodiversity and emotional wellbeing.

Reframing years of misunderstanding

Following her ADHD diagnosis at the age of 36, Kalene began reinterpreting years of internal struggle. People had often mistaken these struggles for inconsistency or a lack of discipline. In reality, they reflected a neurodivergent mind operating without understanding or support.

By blending honesty, humour and raw reflection, She’s a Hot Mess speaks directly to women who have felt “too much,” “too emotional”, or “not enough”. At the same time, many of these women have silently navigated burnout, masking and executive dysfunction.

I spent years believing I was broken because I didn’t understand how my mind worked. This book is about turning pain into purpose and learning to stand beside yourself instead of against yourself,

More than a memoir, She’s a Hot Mess serves as a call for greater compassion, awareness and honest conversations around ADHD, mental health and neurodiversity. In particular, the book highlights how society often misunderstands or overlooks women’s experiences. In addition, She’s a Hot Mess encourages readers to embrace authenticity without shame. The book also challenges long-standing assumptions about emotional regulation, identity and mental health in women.
