How Leaders Build Connection, Competence and Autonomy

By Dr Charles Du Toit

In today’s organisations, teams operate under relentless pressure. However, many leaders still get promoted for individual brilliance. They do not get promoted for their ability to lead others. This creates a gap between performance and leadership impact.

The opportunity is clear. Leaders can transform personal excellence into collective strength. As a result, teams become more connected. Capability also deepens. In addition, engagement rises.

Unlocking high-performing teams

In Leading Teams with Superpowers, Dr Charles Du Toit offers a practical, research-informed guide for leaders who want to unlock the true potential of their teams.

The book Leading Teams with Superpowers draws on real-world examples and contemporary leadership research. It also integrates proven frameworks. As a result, Leading Teams with Superpowers becomes both practical and evidence-based.

The shows that high-performing teams rest on three pillars. These are connection, competence, and autonomy. Furthermore, Leading Teams with Superpowers emphasises how these pillars reinforce each other in daily team dynamics.

At the heart of Leading Teams with Superpowers are five powerful “Big Ideas”. The book also presents a clear and accessible pathway for leading teams. This pathway moves through forming, storming, norming and performing. Leaders learn to shift from control and compliance. Instead, they build trust, clarity of roles, meaningful contribution and intrinsic motivation.

This is not a theory for the shelf. It is a toolkit for action. The book provides reflective questions, practical exercises and concrete leadership practices. Leaders can apply these immediately across teams, projects and organisations of any size.

Leading Teams with Superpowers is essential reading for leaders, managers, coaches and HR professionals. It helps them build teams that do not just perform. Instead, they thrive.
