A journey of a young South African to China
By Michael Mayalo
China Through My Eyes is not just a travel memoir. It is a powerful lens into the transformative journey of a young African through one of the world’s most complex and misunderstood nations.
In his bold debut, the author takes readers from the Cape Flats of Cape Town to the vibrant cities of China. He offers a deeply personal and thought-provoking narrative that blends culture, identity and cross-continental growth.
Bustling Chinese markets
Through sharp observation and raw honesty, the author explores what it means to be a young black South African navigating a vastly different cultural and political landscape.
From classrooms at Peking University to bustling Chinese markets, he unpacks the myths, the surprises and the hard truths. These experiences come with being both a student and an outsider in a foreign land. However, this book goes beyond borders.
The book is about resilience, reinvention and reclaiming global space as a young African voice. It challenges stereotypes, both Eastern and African. Moreover, it builds a bridge of understanding between continents too often seen as worlds apart.
China Through My Eyes is a must-read for anyone interested in global youth leadership, Afro-Asian relations or the future of African narratives on the world stage.
