A revelatory exposé, Blood Will Flow, examines a devastating terror attack in one of the world’s most remote places. In addition, it exposes the global greed that allowed it to happen.

On March 24, 2021, ISIS fighters attacked the small coastal town of Palma in northern Mozambique. Men, equipment and fuel that could have supported a rescue sat just minutes away in one of the world’s largest natural-gas fields. However, that rescue never materialised. As a result, more than 1,000 people were killed. Despite the scale of the tragedy, the outside world largely missed the story.

A gripping exposé of terror and global greed

In Blood Will Flow, Polk Prize winner Alex Perry chronicles the minute-by-minute action with propulsive prose. He captures the events to heartbreaking effect. At the same time, he vividly portrays the people involved.

These include the domineering CEO of one of the largest energy corporations in the world. They also include a vengeful rebel leader bent on a bloodbath. In addition, he highlights those who fought to survive the onslaught. Among them are a pro diver turned remote site contractor, a Mozambican mediator determined to save hundreds, and local villagers who later experienced a second horrific assault months afterwards.

Ultimately, Blood Will Flow delivers a riveting account of a deadly terrorist attack. It also reveals a toxic mix of greed and fossil fuel extraction. At the same time, it tells a stirring story of survivors who continue to fight for justice.
