As a result, lifestyle-focused communities continue to shape a new vision of modern living.
Lifestyle estates and community-focused developments respond directly to what modern buyers value most. People want to live where everyday life feels safer, more convenient and more meaningful. This may include access to walking trails, reliable security or even a sense of belonging.
Global shift towards lifestyle living

Globally, countries like Mexico, Brazil and parts of Asia have successfully implemented middle-income estates. These combine lifestyle, affordability and community management. South Africa has the opportunity to do the same. This can make homeownership accessible to a larger segment of the population. At the same time, it can support sustainable, well-maintained communities.
Key considerations for buyers
While several factors attract buyers to lifestyle-focused communities, Goslett cautions them to look beyond marketing material. As with any purchase, buyers should do further research before committing to a lifestyle estate.
Take time to review the levy structure and what it really covers. Also, understand the estate’s governance rules and long-term maintenance plans. Then, assess whether the amenities truly align with your lifestyle needs. Most importantly, work with a knowledgeable property specialist who understands the dynamics of the estate.
