South Africa’s Border Management Authority (BMA) has introduced new high-security stamps to combat passport fraud and enhance border control measures. These innovative BMA stamps represent a significant step forward in modernising the country’s immigration system and protecting its borders from illegal activities.
Enhanced security features
The newly implemented BMA stamps incorporate advanced security elements, including the official BMA logo and unique identification numbers assigned to individual immigration officers. This trackable system ensures accountability and helps prevent the misuse of official stamps at border posts.
Working in collaboration with Government Printing Works, these sophisticated stamps have been designed to replace older versions that were vulnerable to counterfeiting. Each immigration officer receives a personalised stamp, making it easier to trace and monitor stamp usage across all border points.
Implementation and impact
With effect from August 1, 2025, these new BMA stamps form part of a comprehensive border security enhancement program. The initiative has already shown promising results, with over 9,000 arrests and deportations recorded between April and June 2025.
