Black Rhino Reserve is a concession on and forms part of the greater Pilanesberg National Park.
It is one of the few reserves in Southern Africa that still have black and white rhinos and it’s utmost priority is to protect these magnificent creatures.
The spin-off of protecting rhinos is the protection of a host of other fauna and flora. It is not only our responsibility as South Africans, but as human beings to protect these wild animals and their natural environment. It is also imperative to teach and cultivate this ethic in our youth today for they are nature’s hope for tomorrow.
The Black Rhino Reserve established a Wildlife Trust to help with conservation projects and initiatives to ensure the future of wild animals and the Park. The Conservation Protection Unit is up and running and the aim of the unit is anti-poaching, patrolling the reserve and fence lines, and as a reaction unit to any security breach in and around the reserve. This unit also assists the North West Parks Board where possible.
World Rhino Day
Aligning with the objectives of World Rhino Day on 22 September 2017, current fundraising efforts are toward implementing a thermal imaging system to help the team locate and stop possible poachers before anything happens.
Another continuous project of the Trust is to dart and mark the Rhinos. By gathering DNA samples from each rhino we are better equipped to build cases against poachers when they are caught and processed.
The lodge
One of the stakeholders to this initiative is Morokolo Game Lodge. Morokolo is a boutique luxury lodge situated in this private concession of the Pilanesberg National Park, and a 
recent winner of the Trip Advisor Certificate of Excellence Award.
Daily big 5 drive safaris with dedicated game rangers, scrumptious dinners and breakfasts at the reserve restaurant in a tamboti forest overlooking a watering hole, and the peace 
and tranquillity of the African bush, are included in the DBB rates.
The lodge also features a refreshing splash pool, intimate Jacuzzi and fully stocked honesty bar. Walking safaris are available on request, and other popular activities in the area include hot air balloon safaris, quad-biking, archery and rhino tracking. For a truly South African experience the traditional “braai” can also be arranged at the lodge as an alternative dinner option.
