A third of the food that is produced in South Africa is destined for landfill sites, which are fast reaching full capacity. According to statistics, South Africa produces 10 million tonnes of food waste[1] every year and reportedly, has the largest proportion of food wastage in Africa. Yet, an average of  14 million people[2] go to bed hungry every night and 2,5million of these are children.

The UN has estimated that the global population will near 11.3 billion by 2060, with Africa expected to experience just as much exponential growth (2.5 billion by 2050), which will represent about 26% of the world's total population.

Africa is one of the fastest urbanising regions in the world – and it is widely accepted that the rapid urbanisation of its burgeoning big cities will play a vital role in the continent’s continued growth and development.

Across every sphere of business and manufacturing, new digital tools, systems and platforms are upending traditional strategies and approaches. Fuelled by powerful software systems and smart apps, the digital era is forcing business leaders to adapt and embrace more agile ways of operating.
