South Africa's scorching summers are becoming the norm, not the exception. This changing climate is not just a weather inconvenience, but a growing threat to worker safety. To address the possible health and safety risks associated with climate change (such as heatstroke in construction or injuries during floods), health and safety committees and officers should consider incorporating climate-related hazard indicators and assess the hazard-specific vulnerability of workers, workflows, and their environments.

With the population of the continent expected to double by 2100 this creates a daunting energy challenge, combined with rising expectations of improved resilience and sustainability.

On May 18, 2021, the International Energy Agency (IEA) released ‘Net Zero by 2050: A Roadmap for the Global Energy Sector’, which outlines plans for the global energy sector to reach ‘net zero’ greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

According to statistics, South Africa produces 10 million tonnes of food waste[1] every year and reportedly, has the largest proportion of food wastage in Africa. Yet, an average of  14 million people[2] go to bed hungry every night and 2,5million of these are children.
