As the countdown to the implementation of the new minimum wage draws closer, the nation finds itself at the precipice of a profound transformation in its labour landscape. With revised minimum wage regulations set to come into force on March 1st, 2024, employers across the country are bracing themselves for a pivotal moment that promises to reshape the dynamics of work and remuneration. 

New National Minimum Wage (NMW) hourly rates, which will have a significant impact on labour-intensive industries, were published by the Minister of Employment on 21 February 2023, in line with section 6(5) of the National Minimum Wage Act. They will take effect from 1 March 2023.

We welcome the signing of the Minimum Wage Bill into law by President Cyril Ramaphosa. Our firm was appointed by Nedlac to draft the Minimum Wage Bill as well as the amendments to the Labour Relations Act, which also came into effect today.
