Will machines overtake humans in 2025? Cisco has an intriguing forecast for Artificial General Intelligence (AGI). The era of AGI, regarded as the next evolutionary leap in AI, is on the horizon. AGI represents a form of AI that can perform any intellectual task a human can. This marks a significant leap from “narrow AI”, which is designed for specific tasks.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has found its way into general conversation after the emergence of large language models like ChatGPT, capable of generating text on a near-infinite range of topics. However, the discussion is increasingly turning to the search for Artificial General Intelligence (AGI), which, once discovered, could entirely change the game.

Can machines think? Turing posed this question in his 1950 paper "Computing Machinery and Intelligence" while working at the University of Manchester. In his paper, Alan Turing introduced the world to The Turing test, which he originally called "The Imitation Game" - a test of a machine's ability to exhibit intelligent behaviour equivalent to or indistinguishable from a human's.

AI has dominated business conversations in 2023 – the dangers of using a generative AI such as ChatGPT when it comes to content and communication, the dangers of artificial generative intelligence (AGI) within society and, of course, the use of AI across multiple touchpoints within the business itself.

While it does not seem likely at current progress, human-level AI by 2025 is not as far-fetched as some may believe and we are already on that journey. Major enterprises like Google, Apple, Microsoft, Facebook and Amazon are pumping billions into AI research, including neuroscience research.
