A great set of headphones is a must, and one that loses all the wires is now essential.
More and more phones are ditching the headphone jack, so Bluetooth connectivity is essential. No wires usually have meant high prices and poor performance. Steven Ambrose checks out the new IFROGZ Aurora wireless headphone to see if a great price and new technology can buck this trend.
ZAGG the manufacturers of IFROGZ make a whole range of headphones and other well-priced accessories. Their latest on-ear headphones the Aurora wireless is a well specified and decently made set of headphones for general use.
The Hardware
The main features are a well-designed fit, along with good quality 40mm drivers and full Bluetooth connectivity. There are easy to use on-ear controls and most importantly up to 10 hours of battery life from a charge. The IFROGZ Aurora fit well and are light and easy to wear for extended periods.
The overall design is simple and clean and looks high quality. Set up is simple from any Bluetooth enabled device and once set up controlling the volume and tracks from the headset is easy. There is a 3.5mm jack for a cable should you wish to run the IFROGZ Aurora with a wired connection.
The earcups are made with Aerofoam, and this gives a comfortable fit even over a longer session. The overall lightweight design and choice of cushion covers allows extended listening with little fatigue.
The Bluetooth connectivity was solid, and the sound quality was good, there was very little difference using Bluetooth or the cable connection, and you could wander far from your phone without the connection breaking and the sound becoming intermittent.
The sound
The IFROGZ Aurora was a very pleasant sounding set of headphones, they play loud and clear and do not break up at higher volumes. Overall the sound is clear solid and fairly smooth in the high end. The compromises in sound quality are very few for the price.
The bass is deep if not particularly powerful. Midrange and treble are clear smooth and easy to listen to. Compared to much more expensive devices they lack precision and control across the spectrum. The tonal balance is toward the warm, rich side.
Conclusion
Ditching the wires has never been easier. The IFROGZ Aurora retail for around R499-00 and for this price they are hard to fault. The IFROGZ Aurora is put together well, offers easy to use Bluetooth connectivity, sound really good and are comfortable and stylish.
