There are still more than 3,900 South African schools with illegal pit toilets. We have launched a campaign calling on people in South Africa to petition the government to #EndPitToilets in South Africa’s schools, in an ongoing drive to address the issue. As part of the campaign, we have created a stunt, printing a newspaper insert with ink made from sterilised human faeces, taken from pit toilets.

South Africa commemorates Youth Day on 16 June 2023. With this in mind, we thought it prudent to tackle the importance of establishing good financial habits from an early age. The Oxford Dictionary defines the word habit as “a settled or regular tendency or practice, especially one that is hard to give up”.

Youth Day in South Africa is celebrated on June 16th to commemorate the pivotal role that young people played in the struggle against apartheid and their fight for equal education and rights. The significance of this day can be traced back to the tragic events that occurred on June 16, 1976, in Soweto.

In celebrating the Youth Month, we are reminded that the uprising that began in Soweto more than 40 years ago was all about education, and how it profoundly changed the socio-political landscape of the country.
