I have always been interested in the theory and practices of different leadership styles across the wide range from ‘authoritative’ to ‘visionary’. For a long time now, I have supported the practices of servant leadership as one of the most effective leadership styles.

When the COVID-19 pandemic first began, and we entered our first 21 days of lockdown in March 2020, it was unimaginable that we would find ourselves here almost 20 months later. And we certainly wouldn’t have guessed that mental wellness would have become such a large part of our conversations, both inside and outside of business.

It is not a lack of talent that resulted in 30 JSE listed companies being without female representation on their boards, and a further 67 that may fall into this category. Rather, it is that female talent lacks deep experience in comparison to their male counterparts.
