There are many reasons why people consider furthering their studies as adults. Some did not have the opportunity to pursue tertiary education straight out of high school. Others may not have felt the urge to study at that point. For many people, the impetus comes from a changing working world and the desire to keep their skills up-to-date to pursue career growth opportunities, to up-skill before returning to work after a break, or to challenge themselves and learn something new

Three years ago, we talked about the Renaissance of the PC. While the personal computer (PC) has always helped us connect and collaborate, in 2020, at the height of work-from-home and virtual learning, we saw just how critical the PC is to all aspects of our lives.

Thanks to the global pandemic and savvy, forward-thinking key-decision makers, many businesses have embraced e-learning to ensure they remain competitive. The global consultancy firm McKinsey observed that business learnings were one of the most affected activities when lockdown was implemented, as almost 100% of in-person programmes were cancelled or postponed as a measure to curb the spread of COVID-19.

Learning and development is one area that has been particularly hard hit by the pandemic, given its reliance on classroom interaction. We recently found ourselves in a difficult position with the announcement of the lockdown in March, having appointed almost 200 advisers to begin on 1 April 2020.
