Rethinking resilience – when adaptability becomes strategy
Every day, I talk to CEOs and executives facing the same storm. It’s a challenging time to lead a business. Macro shifts are relentless, pressure is mounting, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) is changing everything. I’m all for it. It’s a massive step forward, and we should embrace it. But the reality is intense. Companies are holding back on hiring, work is being displaced, and everything is moving at warp speed.
Resilience requires leaders, not just tougher employees
If there is one compliment South Africans hear more than any other, it is this: "South Africans are so resilient". We wear it almost as a badge of honour. We have endured economic uncertainty, political shifts, load shedding, global disruption and constant change. Furthermore, we adapt because we have to. But I often wonder whether we've misunderstood resilience.
