Recently, I came across a viral LinkedIn post that resonated with me. A woman faked her own car accident using AI-generated images. She created photos of a “smashed” car, added bruises to her own face, staged a crash scene and even produced a realistic-looking receipt. The woman was not trying to file a real claim. Her goal was to highlight how hard it is becoming for the insurance industry to distinguish real claims from fakes.

By now you would be hard-pressed to find a South African who is not familiar with the terms Stage 1-6 of load shedding, or even the tongue-in-cheek, Eish-kom. All of these are used to describe the instability of the national power grid.

During the month of September, many homeowners flock outdoors to enjoy the start of Spring; this may even result in a purchase of a plant or two for one’s garden. It is important if you are working from home to check your policy and take the time to notify your insurer of this change in risk profile, to ensure you are properly covered if your risk has changed, you have acquired additional equipment or IT infrastructure, and so on.
