The Medium Term Budget Policy Statement (MTBPS) 2019 was tabled to Parliament on 30 October 2019 by South African Finance Minister Tito Mboweni.

South Africa’s economic future is inextricably linked to the broader efforts to create a cohesive and progressive society. Initiatives to stimulate key sectors of the economy and attract investment to ignite job-creating growth will not be successful if they are not accompanied by a parallel process to address lingering issues in society that inhibit nation building.

The National Treasury published the Second Draft Carbon Tax Bill for introduction in Parliament on 26 December 2017, as well as public comment and convening of public hearings by Parliament, which is expected to be early in 2018. Following that process, a revised Bill will be formally tabled in Parliament, which is expected to be by mid-2018.
