The phenomenon of job-title inflation has gained traction in South Africa, driven both by young professional’s ambition for accelerated career progression and employers' efforts to engage staff while managing costs. This trend has led to an increase in roles with prestigious titles, such as 'Lead', 'Vice President', or 'Manager', being offered to individuals with limited experience, skills, or corresponding salaries.

Gender inequality is still rampant throughout society and in the workplace, it can take on many forms -  disparity in promotions, unequal pay and less leadership roles. While this is often the case in big corporations and civil society, we should also be turning a lens towards the education sector, where gender inequality is even more pronounced.

Innovation is the driving force of modern business. In a rapidly changing world, organisations need to be able to adapt and transform at speed: in fact, change management is the most important soft skill for businesses of today.

The year 2020 has brought with it disruption and upheaval of proportions never before encountered by South African business, affecting both the public and the private sector alike. This 'new normal' is necessitating a reassessment of old paradigms and a call for innovative and pioneering approaches.

According to the Pew Research Centre, millennials have surpassed all other generations as the largest portion of the global workforce. This fact may be met with trepidation and discomfort from some Generation Xers (or baby boomers, as they are commonly known), who often assume millennials to be entitled, tough to manage, narcissistic, self-interested and an affront to the work ethic that is characteristic of the X generation (Gen-X).
