The debate surrounding the labour rights of sex workers remains one of the most polarising issues in modern international labour law. Belgium's recent decision to grant comprehensive labour protection to sex workers has been hailed by many as a human rights victory. However, others caution that it introduces complex social and moral dilemmas.
New harassment code will require employers to overhaul existing policies
A new Code of Good Practice on the Prevention and Elimination of Harassment in the Workplace has become effective. The new code will require a total overhaul of sexual harassment and harassment policies that employers currently have in place as well as how these policies are implemented.
STUDY | In defence of Joburg minibus taxi drivers
During the 6th UN Global Road Safety Week from 17-23 May 2021, I challenge the assumptions about road safety, minibus taxi crashes, and who is responsible. In 2010 a minibus taxi driver lost his arm when a private vehicle hit him. The college-educated taxi driver, for whom driving was just a stop-gap job, was left disabled and unemployed. As his occupational therapist, I decided to take a closer look at minibus taxi crashes in Johannesburg and who is really responsible.
