In June of 2024, spurred by the frenzy of investment following the launch of ChatGPT, Nvidia achieved a historic milestone.

Generative AI (Gen AI) has burst onto the scene. It appeared fast and is evolving even faster. It’s impact on value chains will fundamentally transform the nature of work, reshaping how businesses deliver value and better experiences for employees and customers.

Each industrial revolution has caused disruption, but it doesn't necessarily mean a net loss of jobs. While automation and artificial intelligence (AI) can eliminate jobs and industries, they also create new ones. AI has already improved our lives, especially in the service industry, by increasing efficiency and giving us more free time for tasks like booking flights or ordering food. In the post-pandemic world, digital transformation is not just a competitive differentiator and more of a necessity. However, digital transformation is not just about implementing innovative tools and technology – the workforce itself needs to adapt to a new way of working.

Demonising oil and gas companies is not a constructive way forward on energy transition. Africa will push for 'the Right to Drill'. African nations must and will take advantage of their hydrocarbon resources for economic development. Environmental sustainability is a part of it, not an impediment.

The country’s economic junk status is a direct result of policy intransigence. Current government decisions appear to be based on a lack of consideration for the lessons of history. Economies are fragile. Persistent adverse policy-making breaks down an economy, reduces productive investment and economic activity, and causes untold harm to citizens.

The world is fast approaching an incredible milestone in human development: for the first time in history more than half the world’s population will be middle class.
