The market lens for the rest of 2022 will be focused on the impact of political and policy miscalculations. Russia’s President Vladimir Putin has fully miscalculated the West’s response to his invasion of Ukraine. The speed, strength and unity of global sanctions is bringing about economic collapse in his country.

As with any change in life, the longer it persists, the more we relax into it in order to find some sense of normalcy to continue with our lives. But relaxing into COVID-19 and becoming blasé about protocol is simply not an option until we have achieved immunity as a nation.

It’s a new year but the global inflation debate continues to rage. Few things are as important for longer-term market behaviour as inflation; so this is important stuff, but also difficult since the big inflation shifts of the past 60 years (first up, then down, then way down) were largely unexpected.

Okay, I have decided to nail my colours to the mast on COVID-19. And before you ask… No, I am not an epidemiologist or economist. Nor am I a politician with votes to garner, or a journalist who revels in sensationalism. I am just an opinionated individual with no power other than to express my opinion. And I am angry and saddened and sound it.
