Well known economist, Thabi Leoka’s meteoric fall from grace was pretty much self-inflicted. It’s the old adage of "don’t tell a lie, you will be caught out". However, this whole situation could have been prevented, and misconceptions cleared up years ago, had all the entities involved done their due diligence.

Hiring employees who misrepresent their qualifications can be a costly mistake for employers. Not only does it damage the reputation of the company, but it can also lead to a loss of productivity and profits. Fortunately, employers have legal recourse when an employee has misrepresented their qualifications during the hiring process, including claiming back remuneration.

Off the back of National Savings Month – which was celebrated in July – followed by South Africa honouring its women in August as it celebrated National Women’s Month. It is fitting that these two months are celebrated after each other. South Africans hold their women in high regard as they play a vital role not only in society, but in the home.
