Jobs of the future require new skills. However, for millions of young people in South Africa, these skills are hard to come by as countless communities lack access to crucial opportunities, which makes preparing for the new world of work an almost impossible task. 

Globally, the perennial battle to alleviate poverty is an enduring one and in this respect South Africa is no exception. According to Statistics SA almost half of the adult population in our country is living below the upper-bound poverty line.

According to the latest research by Statistics South Africa, the rate of unemployment among South Africans aged between 15 and 34 years, currently stands at 46,3 percent – and youth aged 15 to 24 years are the most vulnerable with over 63 percent of them not employed or in institutions of learning – these stats have worsened due to the pandemic.

The latest research has demonstrated what we always known: Entrepreneurship can be taught, selected for and measured. A study has identified the indicators which predict high-impact entrepreneurial activity in the start-up sector. The study was carried out with 1,200 start-up and established entrepreneurs.

Only 15% of South African start-ups are successful, despite South Africa having the 2nd highest ranking on the continent according to the 2018 Global Entrepreneurship Index.
