Demonising oil and gas companies is not a constructive way forward on energy transition. Africa will push for 'the Right to Drill'. African nations must and will take advantage of their hydrocarbon resources for economic development. Environmental sustainability is a part of it, not an impediment.

Just one year ago, the South African tourism market had set its sights on a bumper festive season that would see it sail through some of the economic challenges it has encountered, and into a brighter future. But 12 months down the line, its challenges today weigh even heavier on the market. 

The ANC’s 2019 manifesto refers to investigating prescribed assets, which are defined as the proportion of financial institutions’ resources that would be assigned to socially productive assets as a key priority. Prescribed assets are mentioned under the two sections in the 2019 manifesto. Both mentions refer to investigation and that no detail has been provided about the form that the prescription could take.

The new City of Johannesburg Land Use Scheme, 2018 was published by The City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality (Council) on 2 January 2019 and comes into operation on 1 February 2019.
