In October 2020, we focused on ethics and delivered a series of webinars to discuss the ethical challenges currently facing the chartered accountancy and auditing professions and come up with solutions to these challenges. During a particular focus on ethics in the public sector, I shared that the professional body has noted an increase in the number of member complaints about intimidation threats.

Following a bruising year of corporate scandals, the AEPF Ethical Practices Survey 2018 reveals 1 in 4 believe financial success is more important than doing the right thing - while 25% in public sector say they fear for their lives when reporting wrongdoing.

There are many takeouts from Transparency International’s 2017 Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI), released in February 2018. Not only does the report reveal last year’s rankings of the world’s most corrupt countries, it also gives a glimpse into countries that carry low corruption burdens – from which many lessons can be learned.
