Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) initiatives have become top of mind in many companies. This has left organisations with questions such as: “Who should run with this internally?”, “What do we need to do?”, and “Is this something that will save us money or cost us money down the line?”

It’s fast heading into year-end and the season for giving is in full swing. Corporate gifting is a thoughtful way for businesses to express appreciation to clients, employees, suppliers, partners, and other stakeholders, and to build and reinforce those valued relationships.

South African business travel is rapidly accelerating in 2023 as most travellers have by now dusted off their suitcases and started taking to the skies again. Interestingly, former road warriors may have become slightly ‘travel unfit’, leading to mistakes, oversights, or difficulties during a trip.

Fixing prices is not the terrain of the Financial Services Conduct Authority (FSCA). In a recently published article, my colleague Dr Brian Benfield called for the outright abolition of regulatory price fixing with regard to the distribution of insurance products (i.e. insurance commission regulation Biznews). Indeed, it is astonishing that these regulations still exist.

The mining industry has always been the backbone of the South African economy, and it still is. A healthy and sustainable mining sector should accordingly form part of the focus of our efforts to heal this country and its people. Nevertheless, the history of mining in South Africa has been and continues to be characterised by the oppression and exploitation of workers under the policy of the migratory system.
