About the author
Professor Phinda Mzwakhe Madi is a businessman, author, management consultant, speaker and academic of 30 years standing, who is based in South Africa. A corporate lawyer by training, he is chairman and founder of the diversified investments holding company, Madi Investments; Chairman and founder of the hedge fund, Mkhandela Capital; as well as founding member of the SA Black Economic Empowerment Commission.
Over the past 20 years, he has served as Director at the following JSE listed companies: The Spar Group, Nampak Group, Illovo Sugar, Sovereign Foods Limited and the Automobile Association of South Africa. He also serves on a number of community-based organisations in his hometown, Soweto.
In 2000 he was appointed Visiting Professor at Rhodes University Business School in Grahamstown, where he served for eight years. In 2018 he was appointed Professor of Practice at the University of Johannesburg Business School. He has written four management books over the past 25 years – Affirmative Action in Corporate South Africa, Black Economic Empowerment – The Rights and The Wrongs, Leadership Lessons from Shaka Zulu, and Black Economic Empowerment 20 Years Later.
