Rethinking Governance and Growth in the Global South
By Busani Ngcaweni
Frontiers of National and International Development offers an incisive interrogation of statecraft and governance in the Global South.
Drawing on theory, policy experience and case studies from South Africa and China, Busani Ngcaweni explores how capable and ethical leadership drives national and global development transformation.
The book examines the failures of neoliberalism while highlighting the promise of pluriversality and South-South solidarity. In addition, Frontiers of National and International Development critiques dominant Western governance models and proposes grounded, context-specific pathways for structural change.
Rethinking governance and development
The book includes chapters on BRICS, China-Africa relations, local government and bureaucratic renewal. As a result, Frontiers of National and International Development serves as both a diagnostic and visionary work.
Furthermore, the book challenges scholars, policymakers and development practitioners to rethink governance models. It also encourages them to reclaim agency and build inclusive futures rooted in ethical and effective statecraft.
This work makes a significant contribution to the literature on political economy and global development. In particular, Frontiers of National and International Development strengthens debates around governance reform and alternative development pathways in the Global South.
